Tourism Data Space

The challenges

Mobility and tourism sectors generate huge amounts of data. However, the presence of data silos is still common, which hinders the development of smart destinations and smart services. Mobility operators lose track of their clients on arrival at their destination, and hotels do not know how their clients move and behave outside the hotel. In addition, there are environmental aspects, such as carbon footprint measurement, that must be monitored and assessed to ensure a sustainable development of tourism activities within a destination.

• Inability to have a complete monitoring of tourists’ journey within a destination.
• Holistic monitoring of tourism destinations for definition of sustainable tourism development strategies.
• Real time update of data among multiple data providers.
• Protecting privacy and data protection rights of travellers.

The solution

In the frame of CyclOps, the tourism and mobility use case will focus specifically on data flow in two directions: from tourists going from Mallorca to Rhone Alpes; and tourists leaving Paris or Marseille Airports to travel to Mallorca, and that have booked a room, collecting, processing, analysing, sharing and using their data throughout their whole journey . The scope is to provide a seamless and integrated experience to tourists, while collecting information on the way they move and consume services during their journey, as well as information on their own experience (feedback, emotion, satisfaction, expectations…) that will be gathered through multilingual NLP processing of feedback, comments and posts from social media. This will enable tourism and mobility companies to improve their services and to develop new services, products and business models. In addition, thanks to the increased data sharing provided by CyclOps and the improved knowledge gained on tourists’ behaviour, trends and needs, it will be possible to perform an assessment of the overall carbon footprint of tourists throughout their whole journey. A carbon footprint calculator will be implemented, enabling tourists to assess the carbon footprint of their holidays.
